Everywhere we looked this morning we sighted Humpbacks! Flinders Bay was buzzing with the excitement of Humpback Whales who had recently arrived in the bay and were ready to socialise and compete with all whales full of energy having only recently left Antarctica. One large female Humpback and nearby males were breaching and head lunging as they communicated to each other while three big males circled around our vessel only meters away.
The large mature female was also pectoral fin slapping to attract the attention of nearby males and encourage them to chase her, this way she will be able to determine who is the strongest and wisest male… the perfect mate! Our local Common Dolphins were also in on the fun coming over for a quick hello as we all twisted an turned onboard trying to determine where on earth was the best place to look on this incredibly busy morning.
