37℃ Flukes Up

Our first warm day in a very long time and our whales were enjoying the crystal clear waters along our coastline as we all soaked in the sunshine. Humpback whales sighted today and we loved watching the unique tail flukes of an escort pod each time they surfaced to replenish their oxygen levels before disappearing to the much cooler temperatures below! Each time they dived we watched their flukes go up and cameras go “click, click, click”. Getting a good picture of the tail fluke will allow us to identify the individuals should we meet them again in future seasons.

One of the individuals had a tail fluke that was completely black, absolutely magnificent to sight and very unusual. Extraordinarily beautiful conditions today certainly made us feel that summer time is just around the corner with sightings of flying fish, a sleepy male Bottlenose Dolphin and our Navy Submarine adding to the charm of a perfect day spent exploring our pristine and picturesque coastline.
