Epic Fremantle Whale Watch Experience

Whale Watch Western Australia

It was an epic Fremantle Whale Watch experience this morning as the Humpback Whales lit up the Indian Ocean and we found ourselves completely surrounded by over 50 surface active Humpbacks! A strong weather front was set to arrive from midday and we had an opportunity this morning to make the most of the weather prior to the storm fronts arrival. Overcast skies set a dramatic scene for the event that was about to unfold as we arrived in the sighting grounds and were welcomed by pec slapping from a mother whale encouraging the bachelors to follow her as her male escort defended his female from their curious approaches. The energy from this pod set off a chain reaction as within fifteen minutes all whales within a two kilometre vicinity began to launch in an incredible display of the Language of the Whales. Breaching, tail lobs, head lunging and pec slapping erupted all around us as pods both near and far began to communicate.

Two adults launched together in unison creating spectacular double breaches while a nearby black bellied mother whale took off with her calf in incredible body and head lunging. It was an exhilarating experience to be surrounded by so many happy and exuberant Humpbacks as the calves revelled in the opportunity to make some noise alongside the adult whales. It was a fantastic example of being in the right place at the right time to witness these high energy interactions between multiple pods as they converge. Our Pod Members were right in the middle of all the fun as we soaked in every special moment of such an epic display of surface activity from so many Humpback Whales. The action went for over an hour as the whales excitement grew as further individuals joined in on the conversation. Over fifty Humpback Whales within our vicinity were counted while even further pods on the horizon responded with plumes of white water dotted as far as the eye could see. A peak in the whale traffic was certainly both seen and felt moving through the sighting grounds this morning and what a perfect morning it was to match the energy of the storm, a truely epic Fremantle Whale Watch Experience we will remember forever!
