Bremer Bay Orca calf Eddie stole the show today as he made his starring appearance for the GoPro and all of our Pod Members onboard. Arriving in The Patch we observed blows and arrived on scene to Cheryl and her family resting before a flash of black and white propelled towards us at great speeds. It was Bremer Bay Orca calf Eddie and he was in a very playful mood as he left behind the family to sleep as he got up to some mischief. Swimming around and underneath us all morning he had a slight case of the the zoomies as he circled around and around making us all laugh. Racing up to the GoPro he would show off his pearly white teeth before going belly up for some upside down swimming. He was being such a showoff and his favourite place to be today was right on our stern alongside the duckboards, a thrilling moment for our Pod Members onboard to be so close.
Eddie was having a ball and it was amusing to watch as while he socialised with us his family was sleeping nearby with slow, calm surfacing’s every five minutes. Dart was eventually encouraged to join in on the fun as the two youngsters would surf belly up towards us before diving underneath and daring the GoPro. Eventually it was time for the family to resume forage mode as they spread and began the methodical search of The Patch. Earlier on in the morning one of the females had been observed carrying a piece of meat carefully which appeared to be the last of the meal from earlier on in the morning. No wonder Eddie was in such a good mood and the family was sleepy and relaxed, bellies were full of food! It was wonderful to see them all doing well today and enjoying some fun time as well. Social interactions are important for all age groups but especially the calves as it helps with their growth and development.
