Bremer Bay Orca Australia Day 2025 was celebrated with much fun onboard as our day was enjoyed with Cookie and Vera’s pods before Queen joined for a late afternoon surge and play! It was a cosy morning as we ventured out to spend Australia Day 2025 with the Orca of Bremer Bay and our first pod was much loved Cookie with members of Kidji’s family travelling nearby. It was clear to see that the energy amongst Cookie was similar to yesterday as the family worked methodically and carefully through The Patch in search of food. Sometimes fishing is easier on certain days than others and for this family pod fishing has been a bit tricky over the last 2-3 days. Kidji moved out to the west and there was also another pod westbound whom we were thrilled to see, it was Vera and her family. Sighted all the way back in 2022 for the first time this was our fourth interaction with them today and it was so exciting to have the opportunity of spending some time getting to know them all and collect vital id images of the pod members.
Powering to the west they moved effortlessly as the young teenage male of the family pod would approach for some bow riding as he hung back with us and had some fun. Big male Zelensky has filled out so much over the last couple of years and looks very impressive with his distinctive dorsal fin. The family continued and as we travelled with them further blows were noticed ahead and before we knew it a surge was on. Racing through the swell we observed further Orca approach at high speeds as familiar faces appeared, it was Queen! Surging towards us with much excitement they barrelled towards the bow and stern at such high speeds they looked like torpedoes spiralling just below the waters surface. Stopping us in our tracks the youngsters of Queen’s family surrounded us and seemed to share in the excitement we had of seeing them as we had zoomies around and around the boat. A special Orca we know as Kiki came right in on our stern and created the perfect Australia Day photo for our team, a wonderful photobomb! The family continued to play around us and it was such a thrilling way to complete a very special Australia Day with the Bremer Bay Orca. Plenty of bubbles and cheers was enjoyed on the journey home as we toasted to the Orca and our beloved Australia, how blessed we are to call this country home.
