November Whale Watch

Whale Watch Western Australia

November Whale Watch has begun as we see the last few weeks of the season ahead of us with many mums and calves flooding through the sighting grounds. A beautiful day and wonderful start to our November Whale Watch as many friendly mother whales and their calves were enjoying today with pec slapping the theme on all three tours. A beautiful, calm start to our morning as multiple pods had gathered to socialise with plenty of floating seaweed creating the perfect toys for them all to play with happily. It was lovely to watch today as socialising and communicating unfolded amongst the pods as the mothers took on the opportunity to teach their calves the Language of the Whales. Pec slapping was a big part of the day on all three tours as these whales used this behaviour to call in attention their way and it was beautiful to watch.

Also arriving in the sighting grounds today were a few bachelor males, some travelling as escorts while others were in a bachelor pod. It was great to see them as it has been a few days of just mums and calves, as we move through November there will be fewer and fewer bachelor males around. The calves didn’t miss out on the opportunity to have some fun today as they practiced their tail lobs, tail slaps and a few breaches as well. It is always great to see these babies learning so quickly and replicating what they see their mums do on a regular basis. Even though these babies are only two to three months old they are so very observant and smart as they learn at a raid rate the ways of a Humpback Whale. The start of November is always bitter sweet, it is the start of many more mum and calf pods heading our way but also the final weeks of the season so we are looking forward to every last day out with these incredible Humpback Whales.
