Warm welcome from the Bremer Orca today as Queen and her family pod on our arrival charged towards us excitedly to say good morning! Still carrying a small amount of food with them that looked to be squid and a nearby oil slick we suspected they had enjoyed a good breakfast recently. The family continued to circle and socialise around us with all of the pod members very enthusiastic. It was beautiful to watch them all surface as one and in a very neat FLOT line as Queen directed her family to their next destination for the day as foraging resumed. It is always hard work looking for that next meal and amazing to watch as the family pod worked together seamlessly.
After a while of tracking it appeared the prey had evaded them but the family wasn’t too bothered as they regrouped back together again for some more social time. Zooming in towards us, we watched on with excitement as the flash of black and white would appear through the swell before they would barrel towards our bow, midships and stern in a playful approach. The speed they move at is remarkable and we can see just how much these Orca love to surf on days like today. It is fantastic to see the family doing so well and looking to have been feeding consistently since we last spent time with them all. It is hard to believe we are almost halfway through March and with only one month left of Bremer Bay Orca Season 2026 we are enjoying every special moment we get to spend with our beautiful Bremer Bay Orca.
