Winter Whale Watching

Whale Watch Western Australia
Winter Whale Watching on the most beautiful winters day with a calm sea, relaxed Humpback Whales and cheeky Bottlenose Dolphins. Departing the Fremantle Boat Harbour and making our way out to the sightings grounds we first sighted a powerful tail lob just ahead and soon it was followed by another and powerful exhalations. Arriving to a pod of two Humpback Whales they seemed slightly startled and were moving at a steady pace out of the area. Sometimes these whales can come into contact with cray pots which can startle them and cause a reaction such as a tail lob but thankfully both these Humpback Whales were fine and soon started to relax.

It is always lovely spending time with such large adults who have travelled this migration many times over and are well experienced. Beautiful tail dives showcased their power and strength as they moved together and came over to check us out a couple of times. Although we may be moving through winter we are still observing a steady number of northbound Humpback Whales and in the coming weeks we will start to see the very first of the southbound whales as the migration path crosses over. Today we also had the wonderful opportunity of spending some time with the local Bottlenose Dolphins, a large family pod of over twenty individuals with three new babies observed. All were very excited and after observing many feeding Gannets and Crested Terns throughout the day it appeared there had been a steady amount of food through the area.
