October Whale Tours

Whale Watch Western Australia
October Whale tours have begun as we observe the southbound Humpback Whales with high energy competition pods and restful mums and calves filling the sighting grounds. It was a beautiful day and great opportunity to explore the sighting grounds as on our morning tour we firstly observed a couple of mum and calf pods enjoying some snooze time. Making the most of the time they have in the area, mothers will focus on feeding their calves and allowing the time to rest before continuing on to the next stage of their journey. Further ahead was the very opposite of what these resting pods were doing as bachelor boys had arrived. Pursuing the other pods in the area, we could see close on twenty Humpback Whales on the move and looking to interact with two larger pods forming.

It was so exciting to sere the power and strength of these Humpbacks on full display. The midday tour was a very similar theme as we passed by resting mums and calves who were displaying a low profile and it was soon clear why. A pod of three powerful whales appeared and the female was racing as the two males fought side by side to gain her attention. It was high intensity and brilliant to watch as they chased in the calm conditions and the powerful exhalations rocketed in sound around us as further males approached. The pod had now formed to five Humpback Whales and by the end of our time with them they had travelled over fourteen kilometres which is a huge distance to travel at such fats speeds while wrestling! A beautiful day out on the water and with the whales, a great start to our October whale tours.
