Many people would be enjoying a Sunday morning sleep in but not Colour Patch! Deciding it was the perfect time to practice his tail slapping we watched as he carefully balanced his flukes above the surface before allowing them to fall which created a wonderful splash… this was fun.
Colour Patch would be one of the older calves currently in Flinders Bay and it is fantastic to see him practicing these important behaviours and getting used to his ever changing body that is growing 1-3 centimetres in size everyday. Three Humpbacks currently resting in Flinders Bay as we see a transition from the northern into the southern migration and the younger Humpbacks will be focusing their attention now on getting ready to begin their journey back to Antarctica where a delicious meal awaits!
