Augusta Whale Watch Experience

Whale Watch Western Australia

Augusta Whale Watch Experience is a spectacular way to be part of the epic Humpback Whale migration currently underway off our coastline. Flinders Bay is filled with over one hundred whales as they arrive in force and with much enthusiasm as the breeding season gets underway. A beautiful morning welcomed us as we moved out towards a female who began to pec slap and breach repeatedly in an attempt to attract further bachelor males but all the boys were on the other side of the bay! A competition pod had formed as they boys jostled, pushed and shoved to get closest to the female who raced across the bay and underneath us on multiple occasions. The pod moved across the bay efficiently and soon found themselves moving towards further competitive whales as both pods merged together in a dramatic scene as Humpback Whales went in every direction. It was a great way to start our day and meeting so many happy, boisterous Humpback Whales was a real thrill.

The afternoon was also busy with competitive whales but this time many bachelor boys with five seperate pods joining in on an extraordinary example of the Language of the Whales. Breaching, head lunging, pec slapping, inverted fluke slapping and tail lobs erupted all around us as the boys put on their best moves. It was brilliant to watch as they launched themselves effortlessly and we had a great mix of enormous, full size adults right through to a couple of cheeky yearlings joining in on the conversation. One yearling had caught the attention of two rather confident males who approached and the youngster wasn’t all that keen for their attention. Tail lobs were thrown and it did an ok job at keeping the boys at bay but running out of options the yearling decided we were a good distraction and swam straight for the bow. It worked as the youngster moved towards our stern and the bachelor boys went off in the opposite direction, a very smooth move from the youngster! A brilliant day out with the whales and wonderful to see them all so happy and keeping very busy with the energy of the northern migration lighting up the bay in style.
