Best Whale Watching in Perth

Whale Watch Western Australia
Best Whale Watching in Perth can be enjoyed with Whale Watch Western Australia as today we started our spring season with the most phenomenal Humpback Whale interactions! It was a beautiful morning and with a touch of warmth in the air the start of spring certainly feels close as we approached our first pod for the morning. A couple of Bottlenose Dolphins were travelling with them as these two young whales were in a very social mood as a couple of cheeky spy hops looked curiously our way. Drifting quietly we watched as they edged closer and closer until they found themselves right underneath us with excited trumpeting echoing out through the calm conditions.

It was incredible to be so close to these young male Humpback Whales who were both such beautiful characters who spent the entire interaction swimming in circles around us with so many spy hops and rolls at the surface. Watching during their surfacing’s we could see their eyes wide open and staring directly back at us, very special moments indeed! During our second tour we observed the same two beautiful whales in the area and they must have recognised the sound of our vessel as we approached the area with breaching and pec slapping erupting. It was a call out and they beelined us, breaching directly towards the bow and they seemed as thrilled to see us as we were to see them!

It was a beautiful moment and was made even more remarkable as the breaching continued and because these whales recognised us their confidence around our vessel was sky high (literally!) as breaching and loud pec slapping continued on for a very long time within meters of our vessel. It was now a call out to the other pods nearby and after a good 45+ minutes all of that surface language worked as two large adults approached with tail lobs and pec slapping of their own. It was lovely to see all four now travelling and socialising together, a perfect example of how important these resting grounds are for social opportunities for the visiting whales. A spectacular way to start our southern migration phase of the season and we cannot wait to see what the season ahead holds.
