Bremer Bay Dolphin days as amongst the beautiful conditions a super pod over five hundred dolphins were on the march! It was a rather lovely day to be out on the water and shortly after our arrival a few muffled blows and a surfacing of two jet black dorsal fins was observed briefly but nothing else eventuated. Sometimes the Orca can be in stealth mode and even though they are nearby, the low profile they maintain means they don’t wish to be noticed and easily can slip away into the deep blue. Long downtimes and consistent movement can cause a pod to move out of the area quickly and be difficult to track. Today amongst the searching we noticed what appeared to be a few Southern Eagle Ray who caused splashes of white water as they leapt in the distance a few times. Darting past our port side and below the surface we could get a rough id on one and it appeared very similar to the other ray’s we have observed in previous seasons.
The highlight of the day though was the incredible super pod of dolphins who arced across the ocean to join us for some fun! Bow and wake riding, we were completely surrounded and as far as the eye could see they were socialising and leaping as they made the most of this social break in-between travel mode. A wonderful day out on the water but it is always disappointing on these rare days that Orca are not sighted especially early on in the season. It is why we have our 100% Lifetime Sighting Guarantee in place so all of our Pod Members onboard can join us again at anytime with no expiry to their return ticket. Although wildlife can be unpredictable, we aim to work with what we can control and that is to ensure our guests can travel again with us at a time suitable to them. We are looking forward to heading back out tomorrow to hopefully see the Orca return back to The Patch and bring with them the energy and excitement we traditionally see during January Orca tours.
