Bremer Bay Wild Orca welcomed us to The Patch today with incredible excitement and enthusiasm as they breached their way over for morning greetings! A steady journey out to the sighting grounds today was well rewarded as within moments of arriving Orca were sighted and young male CB was first to meet us as he barrelled towards the bow and it was so good to see him for the first time this season. Soon we had more Orca heading our way as youngster Bubbles beelined us with mum and breached her way towards us, it was incredible! She was bursting with excitement to see us as they surged towards the bow and she launched yet again with eyes wide open looking right back at everyone with a cheeky look on her face!
It was a beautiful moment and a very warm welcome as it was clear to see that a hunt had just taken place. A large oil slick and frantic birds surrounded us as the Orca seemed pleased to showoff their success as they carried large pieces of their meal past us for all to see. Feeding then unfolded for the next few hours as they took all the time they needed to feast and make the most of this hard earned meal. Food was shared amongst pod members and it was great to see familiar faces including Alex whom we had not sighted since last season. A mixing of Queen and Valerie’s family had proven successful as they made the most of what appeared to be a successful Beaked Whale hunt. It was good to see the families have some success after a big day of foraging yesterday with not much reward, it appeared todays fishing was much better for the Orca. The Albatross and Shearwaters were also making the most of the meal today as they flocked around the Orca grasping scraps and setting a wild scene in this beautiful yet powerful part of the world.
