Cottesloe Beach Whale Watching it was today as we didn’t have to travel far until we were amongst curious, playful Humpback Whales. A beautiful spring morning escorted us out to the sighting grounds as our first pod observed was a busy one, two young juveniles and a dozen Bottlenose Dolphins. Playful and in a very friendly mood we watched on as the young Humpback Whales chased after the dolphins through the shallow sighting grounds with much excitement. A third young Humpback Whale trailed behind for a while and seemed very keen to join in with the fun but as the others were moving so quickly eventually the third whale decided to rest for a bit instead. The playtime continued as the Bottlenose Dolphins led the cheeky Humpbacks directly to us and soon they were swimming circles around us curiously.
It was lovely to be part of the fun and it was also fascinating to watch how interested these young whales were in the channel markers as they approached within only a few meters and also swam circles around them, a very busy morning investigating for these lovely Humpback Whales. The midday tour enjoyed just as lovely weather conditions as the sun stretched out and it was hard to image the weather forecast for tomorrow of rain and wind being true, but it always is! Making the most of these lovely day before the weather change tomorrow we joined with a pod of three bachelor males with one mature adult and two juveniles hanging out together. Chasing, trumpeting and having a jolly good time they headed our way and welcomed us into the fun. It was a beautiful afternoon to spend with them all and get to know their characters. The social times continued as we departed and hoped to see them again once this weather front moves through and the sunshine returns.
