We have seen the arrival of some much larger mature Humpbacks into Flinders Bay today with one very large female on the afternoon tour. A special experience this morning as a pod of 15+ Bottlenose Dolphins interacted with three relaxed Humpback Whales who twisted and turned trying to keep up with the smaller agile toothed whales. The pectoral fin slaps of the smallest Humpback in the pod showed everyone onboard how gentle the Humpback Whales can be when interacting with Dolphins.
The arrival of larger Humpback Whales into the bay is exciting as we will soon start to see breeding age male Humpbacks who will be full of beans and looking to impress every whale around, the peace and quiet currently sighted in Flinders Bay today may not last for much longer! Many Australasian Gannets, Crested Terns, a Indian Yellow-Nosed Albatross and Pacific Gulls are currently busy feeding in Flinders Bay and always a pleasure to sight them on our tours.
