End of Whale Watch Season 2025

End of Whale Watch Season 2025

A remarkable year of cetacean watching has come to an end as we have now completed Season 2025 with the last of the Humpback Whales now having moved onwards to Antarctica. It had been a unique southern migration with an earlier end than expected, but when working with wildlife variables can occur and migratory patterns can shift. Noticeable this season was a busy northern migration and a rather normal southern migration expect for the month of November. The number of calves born this year appeared to have been less or the mother whales took a wider migratory path south as fewer mum and calf pods were observed in the sighting grounds during November than what has been seen over the last few years. Mother whales will generally have one calf every two to three years but as the population grows the calving cycle for females may change and the babies they have might stretch out to one calf every three to four years or more.

Thankfully, although the migration slowed much earlier in November than usual we did see many healthy calves this southern migration. The little ones who were born this year seemed strong and healthy which is the most important factor for each southern migration. Southern Right Whales and Blue Whales also made exciting appearances for the southern journey past Perth along with plenty of time spent with the lovely local Bottlenose Dolphins. It has been another extraordinary season and we are very pleased that our Humpback Whale and Blue Whale season celebrated a 100% sighting rate which is brilliant and a wonderful reflection of a population that is growing. Thank you to our wonderful crew and all of our magnificent Pod Members for Joining The Pod this Whale Watch season, we are grateful for your support and passion for the cetaceans we have the very special opportunity of spending our time with every year. The countdown is now on for the start of Season 2026 with first tours departing to see the Bremer Bay Orca on the 2nd January and bring in the New Year!
