Today we met our very first Humpback calf on the southern migration for season 2017! It was very exciting to watch as one whale raced away from three chasing whales and then a tiny little Humpback popped up right next to mum❤ The whale who was racing away was mum and she was being chased by three rowdy young males who were trying to get her attention. One male in particular seemed very protective of both mother and calf and he kept himself very busy with many head lunges, chin slaps and a very gentle peduncle roll to keep the other males away… but nothing too loud that would upset the female!
