Fremantle Whale Watch Tours

Whale Watch Western Australia

Fremantle Whale Watch tours were busy with the Language of the Whales today as bachelor males showed off their moves in spectacular fashion. It started peacefully as our first pod of three Humpback Whales this morning were not in any hurry as they cruised into the resting grounds. Long downtimes were observed as these big adults had the lung capacity to only need to surface every ten minutes or so with graceful tail dives after each re-oxygenation. It was set to change though as a nearby pod moved in on their area and one of the males launched into huge tail lobs, inverted tail slaps and a few sideways hammers for good measure. It was spectacular to watch in the still conditions as white water went flying and he sent a strong message to all whales nearby. After his huge surface language display he began to approach the other pod and we wished him well with his meeting in hopes he might find some new friends.

Our afternoon tour was much fun as yet another bachelor pod was observed as three big males were in a very playful mood. Huge pec slapping began as the Language of the Whales was in full flight with two pods communicating to each other. The boys then turned their attention towards us and we were surrounded by the incredible curiosity of these Humpback Whales. Sweeping around and around, each time coming closer and closer with plenty of pec slapping continuing to unfold in front of us as they tried to call in the other pods. It was spectacular and we were thrilled to be welcomed into their pod for this special afternoon of social time as the Bottlenose Dolphins arrived on scene to join in on the fun after a big feed on all the plentiful baitfish that could be sighted around the area today. All three Humpbacks were so very welcoming, curious and gentle as they came as close as they possibly could to get a better look at everyone onboard and we all felt very special to be the centre of these whales attention.
