Hello Bubbles! This very beautiful young Bremer Bay Orca popped up to say hello today with her trademark spy hop showing off to all of our Pod Members onboard. It was a day of foraging and play for Queen and her family as they seem to have bunkered down in The Patch with the incoming weather with no intention to leave anytime soon. Similar to our early January observations, the family pods have been keeping close to the heart of the hunting grounds. Generally as we move into late March and April they start to forage further afield, but with Cyclone Narelle causing a change up in the weather forecast we can see that Queen has decided to stay home while this weather front moves through, especially with Orca calf Nuni in mind.
All the youngsters were in a very playful mood as they charged towards us, wrestled and chased each other while the adults relaxed nearby. It was great to see them all having a wonderful time but as they had been earlier in the day, the family reverted back to forage mode in the early afternoon while still staying close to The Patch. It was also fantastic to see Cheryl and her family back as well with some squid success as a few slicks lingered as they approached to say hello. Giovanni is looking very well and completely filled out and back to his normal self after our first sighting of him earlier in the season. It is such a relief to see him looking well and gives us confidence he is ready for the winter and spring hunting seasons ahead. A wonderful day with the Bremer Bay Orca and a perfect way to make the most of the good weather, the calm before the storm.
