Humpback Whale Body Lunge

Whale Watch Western Australia
Humpback Whale body lunge was enormous today as two mature adults launched spectacularly in perfect unison. The morning breeze ruffled the waters surface as a few pods began to converge and we watched on to see how they would react. Often during the migration we will see many pods all with the same thing in mind, southbound. Today that was the case as a pod of three mischievous bachelors were on the move with a pod of two enormous adult bachelor males not far behind them and the distance was getting less with every surfacing. It appeared that one or the other pod was going to have something to say and it was the bigger males who launched spectacularly!

Huge full body lunges erupted and perfectly timed together which doubled the beauty of this incredible moment of the Language of the Whales. A few of these body lunges would clear the area well and cause the younger bachelor males to give them room as they continued southbound on their journey. Our midday tour was at a much more relaxed pace as two enormous adults surfaced together and bobbed about with rostrums poking up above the waters surface. Mingling and meandering together they managed to maintain their reactionary distance from the other pods in the vicinity and continue with their very relaxing afternoon socialising and resting. It was another special day with the whales and so lovely to see them all enjoying their time in the resting grounds.
