The Western Australian Humpbacks are heading south towards their summer feeding grounds found in Antarctica and the 2017 calves (all 2-3,000 of them) are now travelling with mum down the coast on their very first road trip. Along the way they will need to listen carefully to their mum and follow her instructions as she keeps her little one safe from predators and out of the way of the big and curious male Humpbacks. Today we had two separate mothers and calf pods trying to avoid the unwanted attention of male admirers as mum showed some powerful tail slaps to discourage their chase.
