Killer Whale Hunting grounds can be found in the waters off Bremer Bay as family pods gather to forage in these food filled waters with B-Slice and family back again today. It was a beautiful summers day to be heading out to sea and as we cruised towards The Patch our first sighting was a muffled blow, it was a lone Sperm Whale! Keeping a low profile he managed to dive efficiently as he maintained a low profile, perhaps because the Orca where nearby. Cheryl and the family pod surfaced and they were stealthy as they covered ground in search mode. Watching the Orca forage is always interesting as we see the tactics and intelligence on display from these apex predators with much decision making made as they try to focus in on elusive prey.
It may have been another Beaked Whale today as long down times were observed amongst the Pod Members who were spread far and wide. B-Slice was a little less focused after a while and decided to come and hang out with us instead just like yesterday, circling us and rolling over to look up at all his adoring fans. He is such a special boy and very social, seeming to enjoy all the attention as he repeatedly returned to us for an amazing interaction. Eventually the family pod did regroup as baby Gabrielle made sure to have some playtime around the boat with belly-up approaches along with Eddie and Dart. Playtime wrapped up after a while and it was back to forage mode as the Killer Whale hunting grounds resumed and these apex predators did what they do best, patiently establish a giant net to catch unsuspecting prey and we wished them well for their afternoon of fishing ahead.
