Orca Back in The Patch

Whale Watch Western Australia

Orca back in The Patch today as the morning and afternoon was filled with relaxing, socialising and travelling with these apex predators. Jade got the spot today and a very good one it was as soon after our arrival blows were sighted as Cheryl and her family moved past and were very relaxed in the morning sunshine. It was lovely to see them return back to the foraging grounds and they seemed very happy and relaxed as baby Gabrielle beelined us for morning greetings. So special to see these little ones growing in confidence and enthusiasm as they continue to learn the ropes of what it takes to be an apex predator along our south coastline.

Lucy and her pod members then arrived in the area and we were very pleased to see that Giovanni was looking much better. Hopefully he will continue to settle back to his fantastic body condition observed at the end of last season. Travelling with them was two young males which was very interesting, perhaps who they had been meeting and greeting yesterday while outside The Patch. The calves were thrilled to see us as they zoomed over for big greetings and playtime was on as they wrestled and rolled together. A picture perfect day to watch a social gathering of Orca and always fantastic to see them at play as it generally means they have enjoyed a decent meal recently and can afford some time socialising before needing to resume foraging once again.
