Orca Daily Travel Distance

Whale Watch Western Australia
Orca daily travel distance is impressive with most family pods travelling anywhere from 100 to 300 kilometres in one day! Covering ground is an important aspect of their lives as it ensures they are putting themselves in the most likely locations for finding food in this vast and epic hunting ground. Today is was once again Queen and her family pod who were covering ground and we had anticipated there would be a bit more travel time today with this family pod having worked The Patch consistently for a few days. The last twenty-four hours has been successful with two Beaked Whale predations and now that the family is well fed it was the perfect time for them to cover some ground today.

Cruising at a steady pace the miles seem to pass by quickly, before long they had travelled a long way from The Patch and it was now time to return. It was wonderful to see our Prince charming again who came over for another closeup look before continuing on with his family members. Tarni and Noosabu were both looking fantastic and the entire family was in a good mood as they enjoyed their day of travel before regrouping back in The Patch. A lone female approached us from further away and we all had an inkling it would be Queen, sure enough it was as she came over for her afternoon greeting. Gathering her family together they began to settle into rest mode with a few elder pod members establishing themselves in forage mode nearby as it looked as though they were happy to be home and ready for a restful couple of hours ahead and a possible snack if the opportunity presented itself!
