Orca Party with Whale Watch WA today as we were surrounded by Orca in the mood to play and celebrate creating a spectacular interaction! The calves were first to start the fun as they zoomed in towards the Steep Point and showed off their acrobatic skills and coordination even at their very young age. The adults were mingling as they socialised together and similar to most family gatherings the juveniles and calves kept themselves occupied while the adults did their own thing not far away. Soon the adults started to loosen up a little and as they began to converge all age groups were playing and having the best day. It was much fun to watch as now with the adults joining in on the fun the calves excitement levels grew dramatically and soon they were going ballistic, launching themselves in breaching, tail slaps and spy hops.
Excitement levels continued to grow as we were met by Shamrock who appeared to have been having a little too much fun at the party (perhaps one too many shandies) as she came in for what was practically Orca hugs. Belly up and swimming around us repeatedly, she was so incredibly close and we could clearly see just how big and beautiful she has become. Even the matriarchs were mingling together happily and it made us smile to see them all relaxed and enjoying a big Orca party after the first month of the season. It has been a leaner start but with the consistency of food that has become available over the last week the families of the Bremer Bay Orca community have been feeding well. The rewards of regular food intake is extra energy to enjoy spending with family and friends just as we witnessed today. A privilege to be welcomed so warmly to this special Orca party and see how the apex predators of our ocean kickback and relax!
