Perth Daily Whale Tours

Whale Watch Western Australia
Perth Daily Whale Tours are underway from Fremantle and today the pods had plenty of distance amongst them but were keen to communicate with some beautiful surface language. The morning was all about a lone yearling calling out in search of a companion. Recently separated from mum, this youngster is taking on the migration solo for the very first time and to begin with it can be daunting for them but they soon grow in confidence with each passing day. After all it is something they are born to do and with their mums care and teaching these babies are ready to take on the vast ocean wilderness. Breaching, tail lobs, pec slapping and tail slapping unfolded as the youngster was making a big effort to call out and see who else was in the area, ideally another yearlong we hoped!

It was quiet though in the sighting grounds with not many pods moving through, just like any traffic on a freeway the ebb and flow of these travelling whales changes from hour to hour. The midday tour was a similar with the main sightings area very calm but two enormous adults had arrived and were in cruise control. It was lovely to see these big whales and wonder how many migrations they have completed so far throughout their life. Although enormous, they still need to be mindful of predators and we suspected a shark may have been following them as they shifted from extremely relaxed to high energy mode! Launching into enormous tail lobs and inverted tail slapping the booming echo could be heard and it was immensely powerful. Any shark nearby would have been rather startled as both whales worked together perfectly to clear the area. It was a spectacular display and combined with the huge sound they were both creating it made for a special way to complete another wonderful day with our Perth Daily Whale Tours.
