Perth Humpback Whale Migration Path

Whale Watch Western Australia
Perth Humpback Whale migration path during spring welcomes many new calves and plenty of bachelor males as they track southbound towards Antarctica. Today we were excited to see many mum and calf pods having arrived overnight and this morning they were dotted throughout the sighting grounds. The first mum and calf were sleeping quietly as they seemed to be very pleased with their little spot they had found. The second mum and calf pod were also trying to maintain their spot while the third pod had just arrived in the area and were on their way towards Gage Roads. Her calf was healthy and did a great job in keeping up with mum while also checking out and exploring this section of the resting grounds.

In future years this calf will return and it is important for the mother whale to showcase areas within the resting grounds that are preferred for future visits once this calf is travelling as a yearling on their own. Our midday tours observed many more mum and calf pods settling in and just ahead of them was a whole wave of bachelor males. Pec slapping from one of the females caused a stir as the males jostled for position and over nine splintered off into two seperate pods with each pursuing a female. A little push and shove continued but the males are so exhausted their energy reserves are limited so things became more social very quickly. A mother and calf were the last to join the conversation with some beautiful breaching and it completed another special day enjoying being part of the Perth Humpback Whale migration path.
