Perth November Whale Tours are filled with the fun and excitement of visiting Humpback mum and calves as they enjoy some time in Perth waters. A cool southerly breeze greeted us this morning on our way out to see our Humpbacks. Our first sighting was a beautiful white bellied mum and calf that was very curious towards us, they started off rolling around the surface before beelining us and headed straight for the bow. Mum was very curious as well lifting her head slightly to get a better look at us, her calf followed every move she made and wasn’t letting us leave her anytime soon. Just up a head we had a little bit of white water so we ventured up towards the last sighting to see what the fuss was about. Turns out we had a mum calf and male escort together just cruising along, as we go further into November we will see the last of the mums and calves come through. Just before we left we spent some time with mum and calf just resting and cruising along.
As we headed back out for our second tour our first sighting was a huge black tail just sailing above the water, this was a very special behaviour we can see more of up north where the mothers will stick their tail out of the water to cool down. It was very exciting to see if today as we only have sighted this behaviour twice this season. A huge splash of white water up ahead got our attention so we headed towards the white water, turns out it was a very excited calf breaching away with mum pec slapping to try and get another calf’s attention that was close by. The other calf was a little busy playing with seaweed but then decided he wanted to join in on the breaching, then these two calves had a little breach battle until one of them was called back to mum but the other kept going and going, with breach after breach we watched on giving him or her a ten out of ten every time.
