After a few days of stormy weather it was lovely to be back out on Flinders Bay enjoying the company of so many beautiful Humpbacks, they were everywhere! Over 50 Humpbacks were sighted today collectively from our morning/afternoon tours and we had a fantastic display of different behaviour with peduncle slaps, spy hops, tail and pec slaps and even a few breaches around the bay.
Our morning tour was filled with many different competition pods powering through the bay. Lots of dominant behaviour displayed as each male tried to stand their ground and keep the numerous other males within the bay well away from their girlfriend!
A female Humpback was rolling around on the surface during our afternoon tour which enabled us to have the opportunity to see the eye of a Humpback whale. As she did a few rolls and began to pec slap you can clearly see her eye in the gallery photos if you look carefully. Much birdlife was also sighted today enjoying a good feed and often approaching our vessel to check things out.
Our night time snacking dolphins returned once again to the Augusta Boat Harbour late last night feeding on the fish found inside the marina and even coming over to say hello under the lights which was very exciting as we watched them hunting and feeding under the stars…magic!
