A Bunch of Galahs

There was a bunch of galahs down at the Augusta Boat Harbour today as our guests onboard heard the strange but distinctive sound and looking above sure enough, there they were! Seeming completely out of sorts as they flew above the ocean they quickly redirected and headed back to the mainland which had us all giggling. Curious Humpbacks including a pregnant female came over for a closeup look and our playful Southern Right Whales enjoyed this beautiful day.

A juvenile Humpback decided he would hide underneath us for a little while as the older whales past us and gave everyone a big surprise as he surfaced only meters away from our bow and again on our stern. The younger whales will often use vessels as a shadow or footprint to hide from other whales, especially when one of those whales is a big adult male protecting his girl from any would be suitors!
