Whale Watching Encounters

Whale Watch Western Australia
Whale Watching encounters have been extraordinary for the start of the southern migration as today we were once again surrounded by the most beautiful, friendly Humpback Whales! It was a beautiful morning and as we moved out to the sighting grounds we noticed a slight warmth to the breeze, spring is slowly starting to settle in and the season gently changing. Our first pod was a very sleepy juvenile who was quietly resting away from the other pods and enjoying a morning sleep in as we moved over towards a pod of two curious young adults. Deciding we looked rather interesting, the playful pod moved towards us and began to swim circles around and around for a better look. Big spy hops just off our bow revealed every tubercle and barnacle decorating their rostrum along with a scattering of tiny hairs.

A third pod was moving in slowly but surely as we were in the perfect area for this mornings interactions as many playful whales found us and began to socialise. It was fantastic to watch as they moved through the turquoise colours of the Indian Ocean effortlessly and showed off their dance moves. Twisting, turning and rolling around each other as they each tried to get a bit closer to our vessel. One of the whales we could confirm was a female as she showed off her lower belly and we are amazed to see just how curious some of the girls have been this season as they push the boys out of the way so they can get a better look at our vessel and everyone onboard. It was a very special interaction and we are so pleased to see these young adult whales having so much fun during their stay in the resting grounds off Fremantle. Wishing them well we hoped they would continue on with their social day together, rest a little more and prepare well for when it is time to depart and continue south towards Antarctica.
