Whale Watching Perth Breachathon it was today as onboard both our tours we were witness to spectacular breaching and pec slapping as the Language of the Whales was on full display today! The excitement amongst the pods was clear soon on our arrival in the sighting grounds as pods filled the area and could also be seen out towards the horizon. Communication was strong and clear as multiple pods would breach, tail lob and pec slap as the conversations began to flow with one whale in particular shouting out louder than all of the others. Breaching repeatedly and then following up with beautiful pec slapping, this female Humpback Whale was determined to find a suitable travel companion. The sighting grounds are a fantastic location for these whales to meet up with other individuals as they slow from the steady journey off migrating and can catchup a little easier with other pods who have slowed or are stationary.
Convergence of whales is when you are most likely to see conversations taking place and that was certainly the case today, with so many whales around it was inevitable that one of the pods would have something to say eventually! Our morning whale breached and pec slapped for a solid hour which was remarkable energy for this later stage of the migration, but she was healthy and keen to find a friend today so put in all the effort she could to be heard above everyone else. The midday tour was a very similar energy amongst the pods with multiple conversations taking place, one pod of five were boisterous with one of the individuals showing off with some powerful tail lobs, inverted tail slapping and pec slapping. Then it was time for the breaching and that really made an impact and would have been heard clearly by all the other pods nearby. It was a special breathathon day today with so many spectacular breaches we quickly lost count, but enjoyed witnessing every single one of them!
